The Problem

E-mail spam, known as unsolicited bulk Email (UBE), junk mail, or unsolicited commercial email (UCE), is the practice of sending unwanted e-mail messages, frequently with commercial content, in large quantities to an indiscriminate set of recipients. Spam in e-mail started to become a problem when the Internet was opened up to the general public in the mid-1990s. It grew exponentially over the following years, and today composes some 80 to 85% of all the email in the world, by a "conservative estimate".

The California legislature found that spam cost United States organizations alone more than $13 billion in 2007, including lost productivity and the additional equipment, software, and manpower needed to combat the problem. A spam filter is the solution.

Spam may be cheap for the people who send it, but it can be a serious expense for your business. According to a study conducted earlier this year by Nucleus Research Inc., spam management costs U.S. businesses more than $71 billion annually in lost productivity — $712 per employee.

The Solution: Spam Filter

NoSpam Mail Protection spam filter employs an extensive range of tests on incoming messages to detect spam. These include traditional, widely used approaches for spam detection such as message authenticity checks, header analysis, message signature analysis, databases of domain names and addresses used by spammers, and whitelists and blacklists. NoSpam Mail Protection spam filter also incorporates advanced, industry-leading proprietary techniques such as real-time message source analysis, graphics analysis, and user-based message profiling.

Detection rate varies by user and is based on the email traffic patterns for a given domain, and on NoSpam Mail Protection’s aggressiveness for that user (users can configure the filter aggressiveness). On average, NoSpam Mail Protection spam flter service blocks over 98% of junk email and 100% of email-borne viruses. All these emails are stopped before reaching the mail server, protecting the mail server, and reducing mail server resources. This frees the mail server to do it's job it's intended for processing mail, not spam.
